Police Station Construction Update Tonight

The Board of Selectmen are scheduled to hear a report Wednesday from the committee that is supervising the construction of the new Police Station.

The briefing by the Police Station Building Committee is set for tonight's selectmen's meeting, which starts at 7:15 p.m.

Vice Chairman David Van Dam had asked previously for a briefing on the status of the station construction project, saying residents have complained to him that they do not know what is happening on the station construction.

Board Chairman Richard Malagrifa assured Van Dam that the construction project has not overspent its contingency funds and he does not expect it to, now that the project has completed the "below ground" work.

"We are not over our contingencies," Malagrifa said.

Town Administrator Thomas Younger said he has asked the committee to develop a timeline for the project so the selectmen and the administrator can track the progress of the project.

The new two-story, 13,700-square-foot police station is being built on town-owned land at 531 Humphrey Street by the town pumping station.

The steel frame construction appeared complete earlier this week with most of the plywood sheathing in place.
