Purim Rocks

Chabad Lubavitch Enjoys a Wild Time

Upstairs it was shaking the chandeliers from the ceiling, and downstairs it was a real life farm, replete with an Alpaca, chickens, sheep, rabbits.  Purim, the festive Jewish holiday that commemorates a triumph over oppression as told in the Biblical Book of Esther, was an all-round wild time at during the holiday celebration during the weekend.

Some 400 people filled the Chabad Lubavitch Shul on Burrill Street, and the scene could just as easily have been Bourbon Street in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday.

Elaborate costumes, boisterous dancing, and plenty of food and drink were the order of the day.  New York-based Soulfarm, with lead singers C Lanzbom and Noah Solomon, were the featured performers and the jammin' rock-blues group had most everyone on their feet.

Meanwhile, children thrilled to the Traveling Farm "Animal Craze."  Tonya Dokulil's mobile adventure turned the Shul lower hall into a farm, with a full petting zoo and facepainting to keep everyone smiling.

It was quite apparent that the Chabad Lubavitch community, in keeping with custom, took to heart the direction:  "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry!"
