Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan Process to Kick off with Public Visioning Forum on May 21

The master plan will create a strategic vision for the community, and establish goals and policies to achieve that vision.

Swampscott – Do you live, work or own a business in Swampscott? Are you interested in helping to shape a vision for the community and a strategic plan to achieve that vision?

Join the Swampscott Master Plan Committee and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) for the Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan Public Visioning Forum on Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Swampscott High School, located at 200 Essex Street, Swampscott, MA 01907. This forum will kick off the public process for Town’s master plan process.

Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan, is being developed by the Town of Swampscott with the assistance of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) under the direction of the Master Plan Committee and Town Planner, Pete Kane. When completed in late 2015, the Master Plan will include a set of goals, policies and strategies on topics including housing, economic development, historic and cultural resources, open space/recreation, transportation and more.

The vision forum will provide the public with the opportunity to learn about the master plan process, share their thoughts about Swampscott’s future, and shape a vision for the community. This is the first of four public forums that will inform Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan planning process. Future forums (dates TBD) will focus on Housing and Economic Development, Transportation and Public Facilities, and Land Use, Zoning and Implementation.

The event will kick off at 6:30 pm with an open house where attendees can view information and materials and participate in several interactive exercises. The formal program will begin at 7:00 pm with an overview presentation, followed by group discussions aimed at understanding local strengths, challenges and opportunities. This meeting will help to guide the overarching plan vision, and to establish initial goals and strategies for plan elements.
