Swampscott Fallen Soldiers To Be Honored At Ceremonies

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A series of events will be held in Lynn and Swampscott over the next two months to honor the contributions and sacrifices of men and women who served their country.

Those events include Celebration of Life for U.S. Marine Capt. Jennifer Harris, of Swampscott, who was killed in action on Feb. 7, 2007, when the helicopter she was piloting was shot down in Iraq.

The Celebration of Life is set for Sunday at her memorial at the corner of Windsor and Foster in Swampscott at 11 a.m. on Sunday, presented by the Lynn-Swampscott Veterans Services and The Honorable Few.

Veterans Day observances will continue on Nov. 11 with a Swampscott Senior Center veterans breakfast at 9 a.m. and a Veterans Day ceremony honoring the town's servicemen and servicewomen on Monument Avenue at 11 a.m.

The Military Friends Foundation and Lynn-Swampscott Veterans' Services will provide Thanksgiving Hero Meals on Nov. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at 212 Humphrey Street. The meals are provided in gratitude to current and former military members, and their families.

A new memorial honoring the service and sacrifice of U.S. Army Specialist and Swampscott native Jared Raymond will be dedicated at the corner of Essex Street and the Swampscott Cemetery on Dec. 4 at 11:30 a.m.

Raymond was killed at age 20 while serving in Iraq on Sept. 19, 2006.

On Dec. 17, Wreaths Across America will lay wreaths at the graves of Lynn and Swampscott veterans at Swampscott Cemetary and Pine Grove Cemetary. Those wishing to donate to the wreath fund or volunteer to help lay the wreaths can do so here.
