A young Swampscott girl will be honored Friday for her heroic actions in the midst of a dangerous situation.
Victoria Pierro was 6 years old the night she alerted her dad, a Swampscott firefighter, and mom to a fire spreading to the family’s home from a detached garage, according to BostonGlobe.com. A fan in her room turned off, rousing the sleeping girl who in turn awoke her family. Everyone escaped as the smoke detectors sounded in their Swampscott house. The Dec. 2, 2014, fire destroyed the home, but no one was injured.

Pierro ”could see fire outside her bedroom window,” Swampscott Fire Chief Kevin Breen told Salem News. ”She went upstairs and alerted the rest of the family members, and they were able to get down the stairs and out of the building ... within seconds. They made it out with literally 30 seconds to spare. They were very, very fortunate.”
On Friday, Breen; State Fire Marshall Stephen Coan; and Lt. Remo Zimbaldi, the SAFE program coordinator in Swampscott, will present Pierro with a Young Heroes Award for her actions that night, according to an announcement on the Swampscott Firefighters Union Facebook page.
