State and local officials were on hand Friday as Victoria Pierro received “Young Hero’s Award” for her actions during a December fire at her family’s Swampscott home, according to 7News.
Late last year, 6-year-old Pierro alerted her dad, a Swampscott firefighter, and mom to a fire spreading to the family’s home from a detached garage, according to BostonGlobe.com. A fan in her room turned off, rousing the sleeping girl who in turn awoke her family. Everyone escaped as the smoke detectors sounded in their Swampscott house. The Dec. 2, 2014, fire destroyed the home, but no one was injured.
