Swampscott Planning Board Needs an Interim Member

A member has resigned due to a relocation and the board needs an immediate volunteer to fill the vacancy.

The Swampscott Planning Board has an immediate opening for an interim member.

Former planning board member Clinton Bench relocated and vacated his seat on the board, leading to an immediate need to fill the spot. The interim person will be appointed by selectmen and existing planning board members and will fill the spot beginning in August through the town election in April 2016. At that time the interim member can seek election to the planning board for a full term.

The planning board is made up of five members whose ”basic functions include a) long-range planning, and b) reviewing, deciding and making recommendations on many development proposals,” according to a press release.

“This is an exciting time to take part in the Planning Board,” the press release reads. “The Town recently adopted the Humphrey Street Overlay District at the recommendation of the Planning Board which will help us guide the future revitalization of the historic downtown. We are also currently in the middle of a master plan process to create the town’s first master plan in over 40 years.”

The Planning Board holds public meetings monthly. Additional information is available on the Town’s website.
