Talent Galore!

The stars were out at Swampscott High.

"Swampscott's Got Talent," and a lot of it was on display Saturday afternoon as a parade of singers, musicians, and even a piano-playing dog headlined the Recreation Commission's first-ever talent show of local residents.

Recreation Director Danielle Strauss was thrilled by the event's success as some 600 people poured into the high school auditorium.

"We had such a great response," she said.  "This came about as an idea, and we really didn't know it would work out, but everyone got into it.  This is the first time," she said with a bright smile, already thinking ahead to another show next Spring.

An assortment of talent of all ages entertained the audience, and there were a few surprises, too.

Town Selectman Richard Malagrifa revealed his artistic side and deft footwork in a Cha-Cha with dance partner Marnie McDonald.

Charlie the Dog, with his handlers Dan and Cathy Pierce, pawed at a miniature piano, and the Senior Line Dance Troupe wowed the crowd with two dance numbers.

Jim Badger, a singer/guitarist, commented as he took the stage, "My wife and I just moved to the area, and I never realized I had joined such a talented community."

Badger then demonstrated his own gifts singing a Spanish ballad "Ojala."

It was a showcase of Swampscott's finest, and the crowd loved it.
