VIDEO: Swampscott Arts Shine
The Swampscott Arts Association's Summer Show opened with a reception Sunday at Grosvenor Park. The show will remain open through Sept. 8.
Fifty-three paintings by 31 local artists are hanging in the Summer Art Show, says the group's president, Barbara Gherzi.
The works are diverse and often full of color, setting moods and capturing a sense of place.
The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 8 at Grosvenor Park Nursing Center at 7 Loring Hills Ave. on the Swampscott/Salem town line.

The exhibit includes oil paintings and watercolors, photography and pastels.
Swampscott artist Ruth Rooks won the show's first place award for her watercolor of Preston Beach called "Evening is Approaching."

graduate and Boston University art student has two works hanging in the exhibit.
One of them, an oil paitning called Man Sleeping, got lots of attention.
Buchanan, 19, received a scholarship from the arts group earlier this year.
