Police have issued a warning to residents after scammers hit two people for thousands of dollars.
TEWKSBURY, MA — Police are warning residents to be vigilant following reports of two people being scammed for thousands of dollars. Police said one resident lost $30,000 and another lost $15,000.
"Do not give anyone money, especially cash unless you verify who it is," police wrote in a Facebook post. "If you aren’t sure, call us. One was the grandchild in jail scam, the other was an over billing scam where they call you and ask for your information to correct it. DO NOT give your information. Please educate your family, especially elders, who remain a target of these financial crimes.
"If you get a call or text from a bank or a carrier like UPS saying there was an issue with your package and they ask for your information, DO NOT give it. It’s a scam."
