Firefighters Deal With 2 Blazes Reported In Tewksbury

A fire at an industrial building Wednesday and a fire at a home Thursday morning kept Tewksbury firefighters busy.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Firefighters battled blazes at two buildings in Tewksbury in the past 18 hours.

The first was a report of a fire inside a paint booth at an industrial building at 500 Woburn St. at 3:32 p.m. Wednesday.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke in the building with the sprinkler system operating. Firefighters stretched an attack line inside the building, knocking the fire down and containing most of the damage to that portion of the building.

A second fire was reported at a Brown Street home Thursday. The fire was reported at 6:18 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke emanating from a home and were told everyone had evacuated.

The fire was located in the basement and was beginning to extend to the first floor. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and limited the damage mainly to the basement.

Wilmington Fire assisted on the scene with Billerica and Andover Fire provided station coverage.

“In both of these fires, it was through the quick aggressive action taken by the first arriving engine companies and a coordinated attack that contained the damage,” Fire Chief Joseph Kearns said in a statement.

He also acknowledge the work by the Northern Middlesex Regional Communications Center in both incidents: “The professional and calm manner in which they did their job made both incidents run smoothly and safely.”
