4 Tewksbury Liquor Retailers Sell to Teen in Undercover Police Operation

See what local establishments police say sold to an underage person without identification.

Four clerks at Tewksbury liquor retail establishments were charged with selling alcohol to an underaged person after an undercover police operation.

Hobarts Country Store (2514 Main St.), Smitty’s Liquors (1091 Main St.), White Dove Pantry (910 Andover St.) and Tewksbury Convenient Food Mart (160 Shawsheen St.) were found in violation of selling alcohol to an 18-year-old without asking for identification. The 18-year-old was sent into several stores by police and did not provide identification.

Police initiated the undercover operation March 7. Several stores turned the teenager away when he did not produce an ID.

The information was sent to the Massachusetts Alcohol Beverages Control Commission will review and the Town of Tewksbury Licensing Authority for administrative action.

"The Tewksbury Police Department is committed to the enforcement of underage drinking and will continue to partner with the community to combat this very serious issue," police said in a release. "Any loss of life or injury from underage drinking is one too many."
