TEWKSBURY, MA — The Town of Tewksbury recently announced local precinct changes. Here’s how it will impact voters in the upcoming elections.

Tewksbury Precinct Changes

Every ten years, the legislature and local governments must redraw boundaries that
take into consideration population, communities of interest, and state and federal
constitutional requirements, amongst other factors.

Population is determined by the most recent Federal Census. Tewksbury’s population per the 2020 Federal Census is 31,342 which represents an increase of 2,381 from the 2010 population (or 8.2 percent).

How will the results of the 2020 Federal Census impact the voters in Tewksbury?

Tewksbury will continue to have 8 precincts for local elections. The precincts have been renumbered 1-8. (Previously 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 3, 3A, 4, 4A).

  • Precinct 1 Senior Center 175 Chandler St.
  • Precinct 2 Recreation Center 286 Livingston St.
  • Precinct 3 Town Hall 1009 Main St.
  • Precinct 4 Library 300 Chandler St.
  • Precinct 5 & 5A* Senior Center 175 Chandler St.
  • Precinct 6 Recreation Center 286 Livingston St.
  • Precinct 7 Town Hall 1009 Main St.
  • Precinct 8 Library 300 Chandler St.

*5A is a Sub-Precinct for State Elections and State Primaries only.
Voters residing in Sub-Precinct 5A are considered Precinct 5 Voters in Local

Elections.

Part 2: Legislative District Changes

Changes in legislative districts became effective on December 31, 2021. Under the new map, Tewksbury is divided into three representative districts instead of two.

House of Representatives

  • David Robertson (D) Nineteenth Middlesex District - Precincts 2, 4, 5, 6 & 8.
  • Tram Nguyen (D) Eighteenth Essex District – Precincts 3, 7 & 5A
  • Vanna Howard (D) Seventeenth Middlesex - Precinct 1

Senate (No Change)

  • Current Senator Barry Finegold (D) Second Essex & Middlesex District retains the entire Town of Tewksbury.

Congress (No Change)

  • Current U.S. Representative Seth W. Moulton (D) 6th Congressional District retains the entire Town of Tewksbury.

The Town of Tewksbury Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m..
