Lowell Coronavirus: Field Hospital Coming To UMass Lowell
The coronavirus field hospital, one of five announced in the state so far, will be staffed by Lowell General Hospital.
LOWELL, MA — A portion of the UMass-Lowell campus is being converted into a coronavirus field hospital, Gov. Charlie Baker said Tuesday. Part of the university's Campus Recreation Center will be a temporary care unit managed by Lowell General Hospital.
Only health care workers, first responders and patients will have access to the field hospital, and patients will arrive exclusively by ambulance, the University said. There will be no walk-in health care provision.
Alongside the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the hospital and university have spent recent days preparing the hospital to begin treating patients.
