"A Police Officer working a private road construction detail ... radioed Dispatch requesting assistance with two vehicles he was stopping for possible involvement in a road rage incident," said Sheehan, in a press release. "Two marked units were dispatched and heading to his location when the same police officer radioed reporting that one of the two vehicles had taken off nearly striking another Police Officer and some construction workers working at that road construction detail location."
According to Sheehan, the vehicle that fled was described as a green Infiniti with New Hampshire plates. The vehicle allegedly travelled at a high rate of speed down Livingston Street toward Main Street.
Sheehan said an officer in a marked cruiser tried to pull the Infiniti over on Livingston Street, but that the car never stopped and continued speeding down the road. According to the police report, the Infiniti cut behind Plent Fitness and then back out onto Main Street, heading south.
According to Sheehan, Gurthrie ignored the traffic signals at Shawsheen and Main and turned left onto Shawsheen heading toward Dascomb Road.
"The vehicle then continued up Shawsheen Street at a high rate of speed passing several vehicles along the way," said Sheehan, in the press release. "The vehicle then made an abrupt left hand turn onto Apache way where it crashed (airbag deployment) into the stone wall and bushes lining the right side of the entrance to the development (Indian Ridge Condominiums)."
According to the police report, Guthrie jumped out of the car and fled on foot, ignoring commands to lay on the ground.
Three officers pursued Guthrie on foot and ordered him on several occasions to stop running and lay on the ground. Sheehan said Guthrie jumped a guard rail and continued running along an embankment of a pond. At this point, Ryser discharged his Taser and Guthrie was taken into custody.
Guthrie was charged with two counts of failure to stop for a police officer, three marked lanes violations, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, two red light violations, three counts of speeding, operating with a suspended license, in addition to two outstanding warrants, which included previous offenses for operating with a suspended license and marked lanes violations. In addition, according to Sheehan, a small amount of marijuana was found in Gurthrie's possession.
