Seamus Murphy was arrested at the Motel 6 in Tewksbury after robbing the Citizens Bank at the Stratham Shaw's location in February 2015.
CONCORD, NH - Seamus Murphy, 34, of Milford, was sentenced to 51 months in prison in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire for bank robbery, according to a press statement. The Court imposed a term of 51 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and full restitution to the victim bank. Murphy walked into a Citizens Bank inside the Shaw's Supermarket location Stratham, on Feb. 24, 2015, and gave the teller a note demanding money, according to US Attorney Emily Gray Rice. The teller gave Murphy a quantity of currency and he fled the scene.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the robbery which were broadcast on local news outlets, including Patch.com. Numerous individuals identified Murphy from the photographs and he was apprehended in Tewksbury, MA, the next day, at a Motel 6.
“The Stratham Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation did a great job of tracking this suspect to a neighboring state, successfully apprehending him, and bringing this case to justice,” stated United States Attorney Emily Rice. “Bank robbery, even an unarmed bank robbery, is an inherently dangerous crime that causes great turmoil to its victims. We will continue to work with our state and local partners to vigorously prosecute these serious offenses.”
