Demolition and removal of old school will take several months.

Even as students stream into the , demolition work on the old high school continues.
According to said it will be several months before the 53-year-old building is completely razed and the rubble removed.

"I expect it will take the balance of the year, the balance of 2012," said Collins.
As sections of the building are destroyed, the material is being segregated, that is, separated by material type for recycling , when possible.

According to Collins, demolition began with the 1983 wing, in the back of the building and will continue into the 1959 section.
It is actually a two-part project, said Collins. Once about one-third of the building has been demolished and removed, work will begin on the site work for what will ultimately become the new athletic field and additional parking. Destruction and construction will then continue simultaneously until the old building is completely removed.
