Boating retail giant closing Mass. stores

West Marine will close two Massachusetts stores as the boating-supply retailer shrinks its footprint during its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

The business, which is among the largest specialty retailers of boating supplies, fishing tackle and marine gear in the U.S., will close its Marblehead and Vineyard Haven stores.

Iconic Mass. donut shop among best in the nation

Back Door Donuts, the Martha's Vineyard bakery known for its hot donuts, was named the No. 4 Best Donut Shop in the U.S. in the 2026 USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.

The bakery also operates a pop-up at Loretta’s Last Call, 1 Lansdowne St. in Boston, where customers can grab late-night donuts served through a side door.

Longtime Japanese restaurant closes

Oishii Boston, which first opened in the city's South End more than 27 years ago, announced it would close at the end of the day on Sunday. The Japanese restaurant at 1166 Washington St said it was grateful to customers, staff, and the community for their support.

New outdoor dining venue opens for summer

Just steps away from Fenway Park, a new outdoor venue is open. The Sam Adams Upper Deck, sponsored by Samuel Adams, is located at Hotel Commonwealth, 500 Commonwealth Ave.

The new spot has lounge seating, cafe-style tables, a bar, large-screen TVs, fire pits, overhead bistro lights, and a capacity of up to 100 guests for private events.

North Shore sandwich favorite to close its doors

A popular chicken sandwich shop on the North Shore is closing one of its locations as of this weekend.

Flip the Bird owners said on social media that they have decided not to renew their lease on Paradise Road in Swampscott with the final day of operations set for Sunday.

Kowloon Tiki On The Beach opens in Revere

Kowloon Tiki on the Beach opened at 21 Revere Beach Blvd. this month, bringing the iconic Kowloon brand from Saugus to the city's beachfront.

After a week of soft-opening service, the restaurant held its official opening ceremony on Thursday, June 18.

    Massive $15 million lottery prize won in Mass.

    A $15 million lottery ticket was purchased at Millis Mart on Thursday. The winning ticket came from the Massachusetts State Lottery's Diamond Deluxe scratch-off game.

    It marks just the second time a Massachusetts lottery player has won a prize that large from the game.

    Boston fine-dining eatery to close after less than a year

    A Beacon Hill restaurant that opened less than a year ago in one of Boston’s best-known dining rooms has closed.

    Nine, the fine-dining restaurant at 9 Park Street Place, announced its closure in a social media post on Monday, saying no additional funding would be available and that it had “no choice but to close our doors.”

    2 Mass. universities are in the top 10 worldwide

    Two universities in Massachusetts are among the top 10 in the world, according to a new ranking released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report. Harvard University, Cambridge, ranked No. 1, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, ranked No. 2.

    The 2026-2027 edition of the Best Global Universities includes schools from more than 100 countries.
