Tragedy Leads To A Career Path For Robin Anderson

Anderson operates Robin's Yoga and Healing Center. L.L.C.

When Robin Anderson opened Robin’s Yoga and Healing Center. L.L.C. 10 years ago she knew that passing on her knowledge and sharing her own experiences with others was a top priority. Today, those priorities haven’t changed and Robin still loves every moment of what she does.

Robin first began practicing yoga at 12 years old while she was dealing with the tragic death of her older sister. Sadly, her sister had been killed by her husband and left three young children behind. As the youngest of six children, Robin became, as she described, “a live in babysitter” and turned to yoga for both a physical and an emotional release.

“Yoga gave me an outlet and made me feel good,” she explained.

It was then that the groundwork was laid for Robin and she began teaching yoga to, as she put it, “anyone and everyone who would let me.”

Of course, life has a way of getting busy and, for a long time Robin was away from Yoga. It wasn’t until she was 40 years old and joined a local gym with a friend that she finally revisited her passion.

“I always knew that I would get back to it,” explained Robin. “When I did I knew that I had to stick with yoga for the rest of my life.”

Almost immediately, Robin began filling in for the instructor and looked into getting certified to teach. At the time, however, she had taken in a child from Chernobyl and the cost of training was completely overwhelming. Fortunately, she was offered a scholarship to help with the cost of teacher training and that is something that Robin continues to pay back to new students year after year.

Eventually Robin’s journey brought her to Tewksbury and that is where she opened Robin’s Yoga and Healing Center L.L.C in 2002. Today, Robin continues to bring her passion and desire to share her journey with others to work with her each and every day.

With services that include Personal Journey Sessions, Breathwork Sessions, Private Yoga Sessions, Thai Bodywork, Reiki Sessions, group Yoga classes, teacher training and even belly dancing Robin truly has something to offer to everyone.

These days Robin’s Yoga and Healing Center. L.L.C. has a brand new home at 1565 Main St. in Tewksbury but, don’t be fooled, it is still the same down to earth, friendly yoga center that it has always been.

Robin works hard to help her clients realize that, as she puts it, “if you can breathe, you can do yoga.”

All of the classes and private sessions are geared to and modified for each individual’s personal needs and the focus is always on success. “Clients need to realize that they don’t have to be able to do anything,” she explained. “I once taught breathing to a woman who was paralyzed from the neck down and one of the greatest yoga teachers I ever met had a prosthetic leg.”

“People tend to define themselves by their limitations,” Robin said “I want them to realize that it’s not about what you can’t do. It’s about what you can do.”

The most popular assistant at Robin’s Yoga and Healing Center. L.L.C is Robin’s two-year-old granddaughter Caleigh who has been participating since she was four months old. An inspiration for many of the clients, Caleigh helps them to realize that yoga truly is for everyone.

A grandmother of five, Robin Anderson takes pride in sharing her journey with others because, as she explained, “it has been such an incredible journey.” Inspired every day by the memory of her mother’s illness and incredible attitude as she faced death, Robin works hard to give back to everyone she meets.

For Robin yoga is about helping people focus on what they believe in.

“Yoga is about opening mind, body and spirit. It doesn’t matter what religion or background you have. It’s about allowing people to meditate on what they believe in.”
