It's Heart, Then Hair At Salon 1475

Three months after opening, Walsh is dedicated to being a different kind of salon.

When Terri Walsh opened on Dec. 20, 2011 she immediately knew that she wanted it to be a different kind of hair salon.

With 33 years of experience as both a hairdresser and a cosmetology teacher, Walsh was more than familiar with all aspects of hair styling.  She knew that having the right staff made all the difference and that, above and beyond everything, treating your customers well would lead to success.

For Walsh, however, success can be measured in a number of different ways.   Not content to simply sit behind the front desk and manage her salon Walsh is, as she explained, “happiest when I’m behind the chair.”  For Walsh, getting to know her customers and their families along with working in a fun and relaxed environment makes all the difference in the world.

“I have three talented stylists who are great to work with and, for me, that’s very important,” explained Walsh.  “I want people to be able to come into the salon and feel comfortable.”

Watching her customers’ families grow and seeing new faces in her salon is all part of business for Terri Walsh.  “I love it when I have whole families coming into the salon,” remarked Walsh. “We welcome moms with their children, husbands, grandparents. That’s what we are all about here.”

Of course, in today’s economy owning a family hair salon can have a different set of challenges.  “I try very hard to make the prices reasonable so that people can afford to have electricity and, at the same time, get their hair done,” said Walsh. “We have lots of family specials to make it easier for people.”

In addition to the weekly specials that can be found on Salon 1475’s Facebook Page Walsh is proud to open for group events such as the 'Middlesex Mama's Group Pampering Night' that they hosted in February.  As a mother and a grandmother herself, Walsh knows just how important a night out and a little pampering can be.  “Being a mom is not an easy job and we all know it,” Walsh explained. “They got to come here for wine, munchies, manicures, pedicures, waxing, hair styling and, most important, a chance to relax with friends.  Honestly, it was as much fun for us as it was for them.”

As a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, however, helping make her clients happy is only part of Terri Walsh’s dream.  These days Terri, along with the team, is working hard to give back to the local community as a whole.

Determined that can help make a difference Walsh and her team plan to begin a relationship with the   The team’s goal is to accept donations at the salon and volunteer their time at the food pantry.  Walsh knows all too well how important the local food pantry is and hopes to support it throughout the year.

“There should be food on the shelves for people in need all year long,” she explained. “You can’t just do something for a week or a month.  You have to make a real commitment.”

With commitment both the community and its customers Terri Walsh and are proving that a hair salon truly can have a heart.
