Tewksbury Fire Was At Home Of Huge Pot Farm: Police

Police said more than 180 marijuana plants were found in the basement of the home where a three-alarm fire broke out.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Two people have been arrested after police determined the late-night fire on Herbert Streetwas home to a "sophisticated marijuana growing operation," police said Monday. Minh Phan, 36, who lived at the home, and That Nguyen, 35, of Woburn, were charged with the unlawful manufacturing and cultivation of marijuana.

No one was injured in the blaze, but the family dog died from apparent smoke inhalation. The fire occurred late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said the home's basement had more than 180 marijuana plants with heat lamps and an irrigation system.

Phan and Nguyen were arraigned at Lowell District Court Monday. Bail was set at $5,000 for Phan and $400 for Nguyen.
