Traditions Run Deep At Tewksbury Florist and Greenery
Family-run business may be one of Tewksbury's best-kept secrets.
Spring may not quite be upon us but at preparations are well under way for the change of seasons. For this family owned and operated business growing a huge selection of annuals, perennials and shrubs has been a tradition since 1957.
First opened in 1953 as a farm stand by Italian immigrant Francesco Colantuonio the business quickly grew into a growing center. By 1957 Colantuonio had put his experience as a farmer to use and laid the groundwork for what was to become a long-standing family tradition. Little did Colantuonio know that, well over 50 years later, three of his grandchildren along with their mother, his daughter in law, would be continuing his legacy in the very same location on Main Street in Tewksbury.
The actual location of Tewksbury Florist and Greenery is more than a little deceiving. From Route 38 it is often mistaken for little more than a florist shop but Tewksbury Florist Greenery is a lot more than that. With approximately two and a half acres behind the main storefront Tewksbury Florist and Greenery could best be described as a springtime oasis.

These days their vast arrays of greenhouses are gearing up for spring with Easter Lilies and annuals beginning to come to life. It will not be long before perennials and shrubs begin to make their appearances also.
The Colantuonio family takes great pride in growing all of their plants and shrubs and is committed to providing their customers with the best quality plants possible. As Frank Colantuonio explained, “We grow and maintain everything ourselves. If a customer has any questions we know exactly how to answer them.”

“We don’t have a huge staff here,” added Karen Colantuonio. “Each one of us works hard to provide the best quality possible.”
All three of the Colantuonio grandchildren, Frank, Karen and Chris grew up on the property and watched as their father and grandfather ran and expanded their family business.
“We have basically been involved our whole lives,” said Karen. “We’ve all done different things but, in the long run, we have all come back.”
