Monday, March 11, 7pm

Bestselling author Paul C. Clerici will share stories about the iconic Boston Marathon in this popular multimedia presentation. Come learn about the history and iconic traditions of America's most famous road race. First run in 1897 -- making it America's second marathon and the world's fourth marathon -- the Boston Marathon attracts tens of thousands runners annually thanks to its long and unique history. Clerici has written extensively about the race, publishing three books: Boston Marathon: History by the Mile, Images of Modern America: The Boston Marathon, and the newly released Boston Marathon Traditions and Lore. A race director, former coach, and co-founder of the Greater Boston Track Club, Clerici has run the Boston Marathon for 23 consecutive years. Autographed copies of Clerici's books will be available for purchase after the event for anyone interested.

Chris Connolly, RN, BSN, owner of "Living My Dream Yoga," will lead a 3-week series of meditation classes. Classes will take place from 11am to noon over three consecutive Wednesdays -- March 13, March 20 and March 27 -- in the library's Meeting Room. Classes are designed for both those who are new to meditation and regular practitioners.

Learn all the tools necessary to develop extensive networks that access the hidden job market and that will pay continuing dividends throughout one’s career. Attendees will learn a comprehensive step-by-step process that starts with people they already know and generates a continuing source of new and valued professional contacts. Through networking, many of these contacts become “helpers” in the job search and often become life-long professional or personal friends. Networking in a job search is truly relationship marketing of oneself in his/her target market. The presentation will give attendees a thorough overview of the total person-to-person networking process. Led by Eric Ross, who is often acknowledged as New England’s master networker. Ross landed all of the industrial senior executive positions he’s held over the last 20 years through the networking approach and methods explained in his Power Networking presentation.

VIRTUAL: A Look At The Best Musical Biopics (Films About Famous Musicians) (*RR)

Take a look a back at a collection of biopics of some of the greatest recording artists, from the Oscar-winning performances of Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn and Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, to the portrayals of Brian Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Johnny and June Cash, and Sir Elton John. Led by Frank Mandosa, a film historian and high school Film and English teacher. Mandosa -- host of the podcasts "Silver Screeners" and "Movies Across The Pod" -- has been giving film lectures at libraries, senior centers, and community centers across the state since 2012.

VIRTUAL: A History Of Marrying For Reasons Other Than Love (*RR)

Why have people married through history besides for love? Arranged marriages? Marriages of convenience? Dowries? Join us for this enlightening conversation with Professor Marcia Zug as she discusses the history of marriage, how it's affected so many of our social norms, and if there is a benefit to taking economics and politics out of marriage so it can just be about love. Zug, a family law professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law, is the author of You'll Do: A History of Marrying for Reasons Other Than Love.

In 1939 Franklin Roosevelt donated his papers to the Federal Government. He believed a nation must “believe in the capacity of its own people so to learn from the past that they can gain in judgement in creating their own future." This began a Federal system of Presidential Libraries that currently has fifteen institutions, 600 million pages of documents, 20 million photographs, 750,000 museum objects, and more than 500 terabytes of electronic data. Explore the history of these libraries and how current issues have forced significant changes beginning with the Barack Obama Presidential Library. Led by archivist Craig Wright, Supervisory Archivist at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library.

Explore the life and works of Cole Porter and Josephanie Baker during the jazz era in Paris. Saloon host and doyenne of café society Ada Bricktop hosted luminaries such as Cole Porter, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and F. Scott Fitzgerald at her Montmartre hot spot Chez Bricktop. Josephine Baker arrived on the shores of France in La Revue Negre. Cole Porter penned the lyrics and melodies of this bright young time in word history. Led by professional jazz singer and lecturer Nanette Perrotte, who has a BA in Jazz Composition from Berklee School of Music and an MA in Education from Lesley University.

VIRTUAL: Author, Producer, Director & Screenwriter Stan Zimmerman Discusses "The Girls" (*RR)

Author, producer, director, screenwriter, and playwright Stan Zimmerman will discuss his brand new book, The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore. The book tells the story of Stan Zimmerman, a gawky Jewish boy who dreamed of becoming a wildly successful actor, rich enough to build his own mansion in the Hollywood Hills. While the actor part didn't quite pan out, Stan found success as a writer, producer, director, and playwright, working on such shows as The Golden Girls, Roseanne, and Gilmore Girls, as well as the Brady Bunch movies. He'll discuss his relationships with some of entertainment's most notable women, including Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bernhard, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Roseanne Barr, and, of course, all four Golden Girls.

VIRTUAL: The History of Ireland -- 1607 To The Great Famine (*RR)

Enjoy an overview of Irish history from the Flight of the Earls in 1607 to the beginning of the Great Famine in the 1840's. Learn about the Rebellion of 1841, Cromwell’s invasion, The Battle of the Boyne, the penal laws, the rebellion of 1798 and Catholic Emancipation. Led by Tom Toohey, a modern day Irish storyteller who has traveled to Ireland 19 times and collected hundreds of stories. He comes to this tradition naturally as his parents were great storytellers. In the last few years, Tom has recorded his family stories in a four-volume book called Images of Other Lives. Tom was a teacher over 40 years, having taught all levels from elementary school through graduate school as a public school teacher, adjunct professor and educational consultant. Tom has a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a M.M. from the University of Hartford.

VIRTUAL: Using What You Know To Write A Mystery (*RR)

Been a housewife? A domestic worker? Single parent? Lived in a creepy old house? You may think your life's been boring, but exciting plots can be buried in your own experience. In this panel discussion, audience members will find the clues to the novel only they can write. Authors G.M. Malliet, Dale T. Phillips, and Bonnar Spring will discuss how they use personal experiences and particular areas of expertise to create strong mystery fiction. All three are members of the mystery writing association, Sisters In Crime.

VIRTUAL: Mindfulness & Meditation Class -- Movement Meditation (*RR)

Practice clearing your mind, being in the present moment and reducing stress in this 30-minute class. Participants are welcome to find a quiet, comfortable space to relax and join mindfulness teacher Lauren Masse. Learn how to practice daily mindfulness and calm your mind and body. Lauren will focus on a different type of meditation for each session. The series runs on Fridays -- March 8, March 15 and March 22 -- at noon.

IN PERSON: Diamond Painting Stickers (*RR)

Tuesday, March 12, 3:30pm

Join us for a relaxing craft that is like resembles paint-by-number mixed with mosaic-making--diamond painting! Diamond Painting is when you use a pen with a sticky end to pick up 'diamonds' and place the corresponding color on the correct labeled area--and we will specifically be diamond-painting stickers of Pokémon and Mario characters. You can use these diamond-painted stickers to decorate binders, water bottles, mugs, notebooks, and more! (These stickers cannot go through dishwasher or be washed). Materials will be provided for every registered attendee, so be sure to register while supplies last.

Kids (especially those struggling with reading) are invited to sign up for a one-on-one session with our service dog Diamond on Monday afternoons. Each session lasts for 15 minutes in private - just you, Diamond, and her human Mom, Suzanne. Bring your own book or borrow one of ours to read. This is a great way to build literacy confidence and fluency with a non-judgmental canine reading partner! For students reading independently in Grades K to 5.

IN PERSON: Barks & Books with Benny (*RR)

The Community Teamwork Family Resource Network is here weekly! Practice using your home language with us! Our staff will be here with an interpreter speaking Haitian Creole. At our playgroup we will work on Early Literacy skills and more! Ask CTI about any resources they can help provide for you and your family. This program is for children aged 0-5. The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
