Tewksbury Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of Pre-Teen

A Tewksbury man, previously charged with trespassing, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest has now been charged with sexual assault of a child in connection with a weekend incident at the former

According to Lowell District Court documents, Jonathan Cameron, 20, was arraigned on Monday, June 18, and charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of 14 and furnishing alcohol to a minor, along with the other charges.

Court documents list Cameron as homeless, but back in May, when he was arrested for a series of burglaries, he listed his home address as 56 Pupkis Road, Tewksbury.

Cameron, who was released on bail after his May arrest, pleaded not guilty to the new charges and is now being held without bail pending his next court appearance on Aug. 16.

According to the court documents, Cameron confessed to engaging in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl but denied having any type of intercourse.

In his statement to police, Cameron said he and four minors (three boys and the girl) had been drinking in one of the buildings at Funland on Saturday, June 16. Cameron admitted he had been squatting on the Funland property. He said the girl wanted to talk privately with him and they went upstairs. Cameron said they talked about her friend in Wilmington, her family problems and his family problems.

Cameron then admitted that they kissed and were caught by two of the other minors. They laughed the kiss off and the others left the room. Later, according to Cameron's statement to police, they both undressed, kissed and he wound up on top of her on a mat on the floor.

In his statement, Cameron claimed intercourse did not happen because he had known the girl and her family for years and didn’t feel right about it. He also said he was unable to perform sexual intercourse because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed, according to his statement to police. He also said alcohol had impaired the judgment of both him and the girl.

Two of the minors allegedly saw Cameron on top of the girl, became angry at him and separated them. This ultimately led to a fight between one of the boys and Cameron.

Screams from the fight led someone in the area to call police around 6 p.m. and officers found Cameron and the four minors on the Funland grounds. According to the report, all had been drinking but Cameron and the girl seemed to be the most drunk and the most out of control.

Police said Cameron was "screaming, crying and belligerent" while being arrested.

The other three minors told police what had happened, as well as what they believed happened between Cameron and the girl, according to the report. One of them had taken two poor-quality photos of Cameron and the girl upstairs. According to the report, the photos showed Cameron without his clothes on but the image of the girl was more difficult to make out.

According to the report, the alleged victim was originally uncooperative and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment and observation. The reporting officer said he was told by a nurse that the girl’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit of .08.

According to the report, Cameron was originally only charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace. However, he was interviewed again, after he had sobered up, and provided a written statement of the events. He was then charged with providing alcohol to a minor and sexual assault of a person under 14.

Back in May, Cameron had been arrested in connection with a series of break-ins at Frotten Excavating, Langone Landscaping and a home on Court Street. At the time, one of the victims told police Cameron had been living in a trailer behind the Frotten Excavating garages, according to the court documents.

According to court records, Cameron is scheduled to be back in court on those charges on July 27. His next court date for this most recent incident is Aug. 16.
