Lunch & Learn -- A Visit with The Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library (*RR)

Join Erin Fragola, the Outreach Coordinator at the Perkins Braille and Talking Book Library, to learn all about the accessible library materials and services available through the National Library Service and Library of Congress. Through Perkins, you have access to over 75,000 books in accessible formats, including braille, large print and audiobooks. Perkins also offers Newsline, a service where you can to listen to newspapers and magazines through synthetic voice output via your internet browser or any touch-tone telephone. Perkins also provides access to Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD), a website where users can download audio and braille titles and magazines, as well as music scores. Feel bring to bring a brown bag lunch. (Nothing too smelly, please!) The library will provide cans of soda, bottles of water, and small bags of chips.
The Ella E. Flemings School -- Tewksbury's Little Red Schoolhouse with Author Bill Pavao (*RR)

Author William "Bill" Pavao will discuss his new book, The Ella E. Flemings School: Tewksbury's Little Red Schoolhouse. Explore the history of this beloved schoolhouse and hear stories of some of the people who dedicated their lives to educating the children of Tewksbury there. The Ella E. Flemings School is an historic schoolhouse located in Tewksbury. The original one-room school was constructed in 1859. Through its long history, the school was moved and twice enlarged in order to continue meeting the changing needs of a once-rural community. The Ella F. Flemings School was a pioneer in the field of education as it was among the first, if not the first, training school for student teachers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After almost 150 years of service to the children of the Town of Tewksbury, the last students left this historic schoolhouse in 2004. Presented in collaboration with the Tewksbury Historical Society.
Meditation Class (*RR)

Chris Connolly, RN, BSN, owner of "Living My Dream Yoga," will lead a 4-week series of meditation classes. Classes will take place from 11am to noon over four Wednesdays -- November 1, November 8, November 15 and November 29 -- in the library's Meeting Room. (Please note there is no class on November 22.) Classes are designed for both those who are new to meditation and regular practitioners.
The Page-Turners Fiction Book Group: Ask Again, Yes

This month, join us for a discussion of Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. A profoundly moving novel about two neighboring families in a suburban town, the friendship between their children, a tragedy that reverberates over four decades, and the power of forgiveness. VIRTUAL: A Look Back At Superheroes In Film (*RR)

Superman. Batman. Spiderman. Wonder Woman. And the list goes on...! There is something amazing about a genre that spans generations, media formats from comics to TV to cinema, and incarnations that are out of this world. Whether it is the sense of childlike wonder, the thrill of the action, the need for someone to believe in, or the really cool costumes, superheroes have appealed to hundreds of thousands of fans from one century to the next. Hear about a sampling of these superheroes and all of their incarnations over the decades! Led by Frank Mandosa, a film historian and high school Film and English teacher. Mandosa -- host of the podcasts "Silver Screeners" and "Movies Across The Pod" -- has been giving film lectures at libraries, senior centers, and community centers across the state since 2012.
VIRTUAL: The Musical Legacy Of Elton John (*RR)

Elton John, in collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin, has written approximately 500 songs and sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Travel with Elton from his early days in London as a songwriter and session man through his international fame as a solo performer. Examine his golden years (1970 -1976) where he dominated worldwide record charts with 15 hit singles ranging from the ballad “Your Song” to the rocker “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”. In addition, survey his numerous and wide-ranging accomplishments including soundtracks, films and collaboration albums. Elton John was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1992) and The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame (1994). Led by 60's Rock Historian Vinnie Bruno, a retired 25-year adjunct professor and college administrator.
TEWKSBURY WRITING GROUP: Advice From Author M. Dalto (*RR)

Are you a writer -- or an aspiring writer -- looking for some support? The Tewksbury Writing Group, which generally meets the fourth Monday (or Tuesday) evening of every month, is open to everyone who's interested in writing -- all genres, all skill levels. Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- features a guest speaker (typically a published author or editor) offering some tips of the trade. The November 2023 guest speaker is author M. Dalto. M. Dalto is a Young Adult and New Adult author of adventurous romantic fantasy stories. The group is facilitated by author Dale T. Phillips, who huas published novels, over 70 short stories, collections, articles, jokes, and poetry, and has appeared on stage, television, and in an independent feature film.

VIRTUAL: Creating Pollinator Habitats Anywhere (*RR)

Reviews some pollinator basics: what exactly are pollinators, why are they so important, and why do we hear so much about them? Then explore what pollinators need and are looking for when choosing where to rest, eat, or lay their eggs. Examine the importance of habitat, what it is, and how to create and maintain some inviting habitat for pollinators almost anywhere. Then observe successful real-life pollinator habitats created in places as different as suburban gardens to apartment decks, from small urban yards and patios to parking lot “hell strips.” Led by Denise Guerin, a gardening expert with the Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association and volunteer with the Ohrenberger School Pollinator Garden, whose primary focus is on growing native plants and creating habitats for native bees, birds and insect pollinators.

Join Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal for strategies to identify, treat, and overcome Seasonal Affective Disorder. Dr. Rosenthal is the world-renowned psychiatrist, researcher, and best-selling author, who first described seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and pioneered the use of light therapy as a treatment during his twenty years at the National Institute of Mental Health. A prolific researcher and author, he has authored or co-authored over three hundred scholarly articles and ten popular books. These include the New York Times bestseller Transcendence and the national bestsellers, The Gift of Adversity and Super Mind. His latest book is Defeating SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder): A Guide to Health and Happiness Through All Seasons.

Join Kate for a relaxing and creative Paint Night, no painting experience necessary! We will walk through step-by-step how to make this Paint Night's design--a warm peaceful landscape of a field laden with flowers under a lovely blue sky! All attendees are encouraged to make the guided design their own, and will have a finished painting by the end to take home. We will be using paint, so be sure to wear something you won't mind getting paint on! Supplies will be provided for every registered attendee, so be sure to register below while supplies last!
