Tewksbury Resident Named Shawsheen Senior of the Month

For the month of November, Coltin Urro of Billerica and Claire Cafarelli of Tewksbury were named the Seniors of the Month at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.

Cafarelli is a student in the school’s outstanding dental assistant program and is a well-rounded member of the student body.

In school, Cafarelli has been involved in student council for two years and has been with the Book Club for two years. For three years, Cafarelli has competed in SkillsUSA, earning a silver medal last year as a junior.

Academically, Cafarelli is ranked within the top 10 of her class and has a long list of accomplishments in the classroom including high honors since her freshman year, a two-year stay in the National Honor Society and a John and Abigail Adams Scholarship this year.

Outside of the classroom, she is an active volunteer. She has helped out at the Tewksbury Library, Strongwater Farm in Tewksbury and at the annual Relay for Life fundraiser in Billerica.

Since 2011, Cafarelli has worked at Tewksbury Dental Associates. She plans to attend college next fall.

Urro is one of the best, and fastest, students in the senior class.

A student in the Design and Visual Communications shop at Shawsheen, Urro is also the best long-distance runner for the Rams during the cross country season in the fall and the outdoor track and field season in the spring. He recently finished sixth at the Commonwealth Athletic Conference championship cross country meet.

Urro has been a four-year competitor with both programs and also participated in the Ski Club.

Urro hopes to attend college next year and work toward a degree in Industrial Design and is currently working at SRS Medical in Billerica through Shawsheen’s successful cooperative education program.

Ranked within the top 10 of his class academically, Urro is a member of the National Honor Society and was a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship earlier this year.

Outside of school, Urro has worked as a lifeguard, a swim instructor, a videographer and a landscaper. He has also been a volunteer at the Relay for Life, with Habitat for Humanity and Pie in the Sky, a program that helps provide meals and nutrition to the critically ill and homebound throughout Massachusetts.
