Two People Stabbed, Suspect Killed by Police
Situation unfolded Tuesday morning at the Salter School in Tewksbury.

A man who stabbed two individuals in the parking lot of the Salter School Tuesday morning has been killed by police, District Attorney Marian Ryan and Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning the Tewksbury Police received a 911 call from the Salter School. An altercation took place in the parking lot of the Salter School.
A man and woman, both employees of the school, were involved in an altercation with the suspect in the school’s parking lot. Ryan says two tires in the car they were in were slashed, as well as both individuals. They received non life threatening stab wounds and have been transported to the hospital

At this point officials say they do not know the relationships, but the suspect was known to one of those individuals. The suspect was observed in the parking lot fairly early this morning.
Chief Sheehan says this was not a random act.

“This was not a random act of violence and the residence of Tewksbury don’t have to worry about anything ongoing at this point,” Sheehan said.
The incident then moved further across the parking lot, left the parking lot and fled to the surrounding neighborhood. Officers responding were directed by area residents.
Ryan says the individual refused to follow orders by the detectives who responded. Shots were fired at the suspect. He was transported to a hospital and died of his injuries.
Chief Sheehan said the Salter School went into lockdown as the situation unfolded and no one was allowed to leave until everyone was spoken to. The school is now releasing everyone that was there. Officials were interviewing those in the school before they were released.
Police located a Colt 177 BB gun on the scene and the suspect had a knife on him. The gun was seen by officers.
The officers involved were sent to the hospital, they were both uninjured and released, which is standard protocol, according to Sheehan.
Both officers have under five years on the force and are on administrative leave following the incident. One is the narcotics detective and another a detective, Chief Sheehan said.
