Wamesit Lanes Gets Ready to Build in Former Motel Caswell Location.

New entertainment venue will create up to 100 new jobs.

Site development is slated to begin next week for Wamesit Lanes at the site of the former Motel Caswell in Tewksbury. Developers hope to open the new entertainment venue next Summer.

“As lifelong and long term residents of Tewksbury, our team is very proud to give back to Tewksbury and its surrounding communities, a commitment to a state of the art family entertainment center that all people, from preschool to seniors, can enjoy,” said Tewksbury resident and Wamesit Lanes Owner Don MacLaren Sr.

Back in May it was announced MacLaren and his son Donny MacLaren reached a purchase and sale agreement to buy the Motel Caswell property to build a 45,000-square foot entertainment facility they hope to open in 2015. It was reported they purchased the 5.8 acres of land where the Motel Caswell sits for $2.1 million.

Wamesit Lanes will include 36 bowling lanes, a restaurant with an outside patio dining including fire pits and bocce courts, an arcade and state of the art golf simulators. Eight of the bowling lanes will be private boutique lanes for parties or corporate events. Tewksbury town residents Donald MacLaren Sr. and Donald MacLaren, Jr lead the team behind the project.

A press conference was held on site Wednesday morning.

“Wamesit Lanes will be a great addition to the community of Tewksbury,” said Senator Barry Finegold. “It will provide both an economic and social boost for the Town, creating jobs and a wonderful venue for families to enjoy time together.”

“I think this is a great step forward for the town of Tewksbury,” said Representative James Miceli in the same statement. “The new venue, Wamesit Lanes, will provide fun and attraction to the residents, and jobs and revenue to the community. I am extremely proud to take part in this, and will continue working tirelessly on behalf of the community, town, and development team.”

Selectmen Chairman Todd Johnson welcomed the new project and the addition of an entertainment venue in town.

“The location of Wamesit Lanes is near one of the major gateways to our community, so the improvement to the property itself along with the ancillary road and sidewalk improvements will be a catalyst to improving the northern end of Route 38. Improving all aspects of Route 38 is the board’s highest priority, and we were glad to partner with the owners and our state delegation to see this project evolve from concept to reality,” Johnson said.
