UPTON — Step back in time and discover what life was like during the American Revolution when a Revolutionary War encampment comes to the Upton Town Common on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This immersive historical program will bring the Revolutionary era to life through authentic military drills, period-accurate encampments, demonstrations, music, and opportunities to learn about the people and activities of the 18th century.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe authentic military drills performed by Revolutionary War reenactors and explore period-accurate encampments while talking with knowledgeable historical interpreters about military life and the challenges faced by those who lived during the era.
The encampment will also highlight everyday life in the 18th century. Demonstrations will include cider making and a Printing Revolution demonstration, while visitors can learn about period tools, crafts, and daily routines. Fife and Fiddle musicians will perform during the event, adding to the sights and sounds of the Revolutionary era.
Feeling hungry while exploring the encampment? Soul Cafe will be on hand selling refreshments and baked goods.
As communities across the nation commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this special program offers an opportunity for people of all ages to experience history in a personal and engaging way. Students, families, and history enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and interact with the interpreters throughout the day.
The event is sponsored by the Upton Historical Society, with funding in part from the Upton Cultural Council. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted and will help support the Upton Historical Society’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share Upton’s history.
