Join the Upton Historical Society on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Upton Community Center for a special program commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Joan Burrell of the Upton Historical Society will discuss Elisha Fish, Upton's first pastor, who had an influence on the Declaration of Independence.
Last November, students at Nipmuc Regional High School were given a rare opportunity to examine the original handwritten 1776 copies of the Declaration of Independence as recorded in the town record books of Mendon and Upton—the first time the two historic documents had been in the same room since the beginning of the American Revolution.
Through their research, students compared these surviving handwritten copies, revealing how national events were recorded and experienced at the local level in 1776. During the program, they will share their findings and explore how our neighboring towns responded during the earliest days of independence.
The evening will also feature special guest speaker Andrew Volpe, an artist, printer, and living history presenter based in Worcester, MA. In addition to studying intaglio/ copperplate printing from 1450-1800, he works with the Museum of Printing in Haverhill, MA, giving presentations, tours and demos, and with the Printing Office of Edes &amp; Gill, where he replicates prints of Paul Revere.He is a member of the American Printing History Association and the American Antiquarian Society.
Mr. Volpe will be presenting “Printing Revolution: Declaration Edition”, which explores how printing technology, printed materials (e.g. newspapers, broadsides) and the legal battles fought for Freedom of the Press helped build support for American Independence. Attendees will be able to view originals and exact replicas of printed materials relating to the talk, including several versions of the Declaration of Independence.

The Upton Historical Society invites everyone to celebrate Upton Heritage Day on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
throughout the Town Common, VFW Grounds, EMS/Fire Dept and surrounding locations. This annual family-friendly event brings together residents and visitors to celebrate Upton's rich history, local traditions, talented artisans, community organizations, live entertainment, and great food.
As communities across the nation commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, Heritage Day offers a special opportunity to experience living history through Revolutionary War interpreters who will share stories and interact with visitors throughout the day.
Heritage Day is a wonderful opportunity to discover the people, places, and traditions that have shaped Upton while supporting local businesses and community organizations. Through exhibits, educational programs, guided tours, and hands-on activities, the Upton Historical Society helps preserve our town's history and inspires future generations to appreciate Upton's unique heritage.
With activities taking place at several locations throughout town, visitors are encouraged to spend the day exploring all that Upton Heritage Day has to offer, including:
Artisan &amp; Craft Fair – Town Common (1 Main Street) 
Browse a wide variety of handcrafted items and unique gifts offered by talented local artisans and craftspeople.
Grange Harvest Fair &amp; Community Organizations – VFW Grounds (15 Milford Street) 
Experience Upton's agricultural heritage with farm animals, flowers, crafts, and exhibits. Meet representatives from local community organizations and learn about the many ways they serve our town.
Library Book Sale – Upton Community Center (9 Milford Street) 
The Friends of the Upton Library will host their annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Friends of Upton Seniors will also be available to share information about FUSE and the Senior Center. Families can also enjoy the nearby Upton Veterans Memorial Playground.
EMS/Fire Department Open House – (Church Street) 
The Upton EMS/Fire Department will host an open house featuring fire prevention and safety activities, a look at the department's history, and fire truck rides. The Upton Police Department and Department of Public Works will also have vehicles and equipment on display.
Upton Historical Society Narrated Mini Bus Tour – 1 p.m. (Town Hall Parking Lot) 
Take a one-hour guided tour of several of Upton's historic landmarks, including Upton Common, West Upton Center, the 1812 Boot Shop, Heritage Park Cave (circa 1500 A.D.), and the 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Upton State Forest. Seating is limited. Tickets are $5 per person, and advance reservations are strongly recommended by emailing <a href="mailto:uptonhistoricalsociety@hotmail.com">uptonhistoricalsociety@hotmail.com</a> or calling 508-529-6600.
Town-Wide Yard Sale 
Start your day searching for hidden treasures at yard sales throughout Upton. Maps of participating locations will be available for $3 at United Parish starting at 7:30am.
Live Entertainment 
Enjoy live music on the Town Common from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
featuring the Driveway Chicks. A 4-woman band performing an eclectic spectrum of music. Throughout the day, Revolutionary War interpreters in period attire will interact with visitors, answer questions, and share stories that bring the American Revolution to life. After Heritage Day, continue the celebration at Rushford &amp; Sons Brewhouse during Uptoberfest, featuring live performances by Jake Dow and Zach Boudrot.
Delicious Food 
United Parish will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and its famous homemade apple crisp. Rushford &amp; Sons Brewhouse will also host food trucks from Mortar &amp; Pestle and Gasthoff Catering.
Whether you're interested in history, shopping, music, delicious food, or simply spending time with family and friends, Upton Heritage Day offers something for everyone.

Upton Town Hall

UPTON — Step back in time and discover what life was like during the American Revolution when a Revolutionary War encampment comes to the Upton Town Common on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This immersive historical program will bring the Revolutionary era to life through authentic military drills, period-accurate encampments, demonstrations, music, and opportunities to learn about the people and activities of the 18th century.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe authentic military drills performed by Revolutionary War reenactors and explore period-accurate encampments
while talking with knowledgeable historical interpreters about military life and the challenges faced by those who lived during the era.
The encampment will also highlight everyday life in the 18th century. Demonstrations will include cider making and a Printing Revolution demonstration, while visitors can learn about period tools, crafts, and daily routines. Fife and Fiddle musicians will perform during the event, adding to the sights and sounds of the Revolutionary era.
Feeling hungry while exploring the encampment? Soul Cafe will be on hand selling refreshments and baked goods.
As communities across the nation commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this special program offers an opportunity for people of all ages to experience history in a personal and engaging way. Students, families, and history enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and interact with the interpreters throughout the day.
The event is sponsored by the Upton Historical Society, with funding in part from the Upton Cultural Council. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted and will help support the Upton Historical Society’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share Upton’s history.
