5 Things: Galvinize Fundraiser, Special Ed. Seminar, and More

Here are five things worth knowing today, March 13, 2012, in Wakefield, MA.

1. Beautiful - Unless you spent the day yesterday working in an ice cream freezer, you know that temperatures hit record-breaking levels yesterday for much of New England. Temps in Wakefield reached a high of 75 degrees. Today will start out cloudy, but temperatures will reach 65 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Today in Wakefield Sports - The Wakefield boys varsity ice hockey team lost to Burlington 4 to 2 last night at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell for the Division I North State Championship. Burlington goes on to play Milton in the Division I Finals on March 18. Click here for a , and .

3. Fundraise to "Galvinize:" The community group Galvinize Wakefield will be holding a dinner fundraiser tonight from 5-8 p.m. at the Dockside Restaurant in Wakefield. The group's mission is to inform the Wakefield community on the objectives, project plans, and benefits of the Galvin Middle School Project. 4. So you want to be a millionaire: Or at least a real estate agent. 5. Special education workshp -  The Wakefield Special Education P.A.C will be sponsoring a Special Education Workshop on tonight from 7-9 p.m. in the Wakefield High School cafeteria. Attorney Elaine Cocroft, an educational advocate and attorney who specializes in disability law will be the guest speaker. The workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). It is designed to help parents learn how to be effective partners with their child’s school to decide the child’s eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child’s progress in school. This event will provide parents with a question and answer period and is free and open to the public. n.
