5 Things: Spring Into Shopping, Boys & Girls Club Fundraiser

Five things worth knowing today, March 19, 2012, in Wakefield, MA.

1. Forget spring, it's summer! - Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The best part is, this will be the coldest day of the week, with temperatures rising well into the 70s.

2. New "Best of Readers' Choice" contest: Hair Salons - Which salon in town is your favorite? Which one offers the best color specialists? What about the best service? Vote for your favorite in this week's contest. 

3. The Wakefield Branch of the Boys & Girls Club - is holding a fundraiser tonight at the Dockside Restaurant from 5-8 p.m. Dine at the restaurant and 10 percent of your meal goes towards establishing a Boys & Girls Club in Wakefield. There will also be tickets on hand for a comedy night on Friday, March 30th featuring comedians Lenny Clarke, Tony V, a few others. The night also includes a live band, a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, raffles, a silent auction, and a live auction. Tickets for the comedy event on the 30th are $40 each. .

4. Spring into Shopping -  The Wakefield Spring into Shopping event begins today and run through Saturday, March 31st. Stop into one of the many Wakefield merchants that are displaying a Shamrock in their window. Similar to the Elf on a Shelf game, locate the small green hat that's hidden somewhere in the store, make a purchase, and you're entered to win $200 to be spent at any of the participating Wakefield stores. The winner will be announced on April 3rd. See here for more information.

5. "It's your money"  - The Beebe Library presents the next segment of its Money Management Series tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the library.  Phil Fragasso, co-author of Your Nest Egg Game Plan, president of I-Pension LLC, and a registered investment advisor and educator will talk about how middle-income working Americans can optimize their savings and maximize their income stream during retirement.
