A Little Bit of Paradise: Tania Offers a Unique Spa Experience

The Thursday Patch Passport shows you a Little Bit of Paradise. This is a local place where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life, without having to go far from home. Come along and relax.

offers all the pampering treatments to make you feel like a movie star right in your hometown.

"It's about the way that you are treated when you come here," said long-time salon guest Gina Gebhard. "They take care of each person."

Tania Alongi, a lifelong Wakefield resident, is the owner and master stylist of the salon. She opened the shop back in 1993 when it was located on Princess St. The salon then moved to its new location in June of 2002.

The spa uses only Aveda products, an enviornmentally conscious product line. Aveda's color line is up to 99 percent naturally derived, making it better for the guest and the person applying the treatment. Alongi is a firm support of Aveda's eco-friendly practices.

"I love their mission of treating the world and the people like they matter," Alongi said. "The mission is important as far as where they get the ingredients for their products. It's all about sustainability."

Guests have the option of taking a complimentary elemental nature sensory journey, where a team member walks you through a series of questions to find out what your body is looking for at a particular moment.

Based on the guest's answers to certain questions and their response to various scents of pure essential oils, one scent is chosen that reflect's the persons elemental nature that day. The guest then has the option of applying it to bath salts, massage oils, or perfume sprays for purchase.

Other services include haircuts, color services, hair enrichments, wedding and special occasion hair, facials, waxing, body treatments, massage therapy, spa enrichments, nail services (manicure, pedicure), nail enhancements (balancing foot and hand treatments), make-up (special occasions, bridal, and one-hour make-up lesson).

"The fact that we customize everything [is unique]," said Alongi. "Whether it be the facials downstairs, to the colours that we do. We do a personality profile and get to know the person, and for the facials we do a customize analysis to find out how your skin is reacting for the day and they actually customize whatever you need."

The salon and spa also offers a form of microdermabrasion with botanicals.

"It's not abrasive or as aggressive as you might find in another type of skin care salon," said Alongi.

Tania Salon and Spa is also an active contributor to local events and is heavily involved in the community.

"We try and donate to anything that we can," said Alongi. "Anybody who comes in and is looking for something, we always try to donate a gift certificate and help out the community in any way we can."
