(Wakefield, MA) – Beginning Monday, August 1st, Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD) customers will be able to pay their WMGLD bill online at the department’s online account management website accessed through the WMGLD website www.wmgld.com. The site will also enable customers to view their account information, including usage and payment history.
To participate, customers must register by entering the last six digits of their WMGLD account number (which is located at the top-left of the WMGLD bill), their name and address, and then create a user name and password. The customer will receive an email from the WMGLD that will indicate that the Customer Web account has been created, along with a link that the customer must click to complete the online account activation.
Once activated, customers can access information on the site, including account statements, previous transactions, and electric and gas consumption for the previous 13 months, in addition to making current or past due payments.

WMGLD customers can make their online payment using a credit card or a debit card with credit card capabilities. They will also be able to request a paperless statement each month, if desired, on the billing preferences tab on the site.
“Rather than receive a bill each month in the mail, customers will be able to decide whether they want to receive an email notification that their bill is available online,” General Manager Pete Dion added. “This is a great option that will reduce the amount of paper we use, thereby saving our natural resources.”

Customers will still receive statements in the mail unless they select the paperless option.
The online payment option is one of the many ways customers can pay their bill each month, according to the General Manager. The popular direct payment option will still be available, as will the payment by credit card through the business office. Payments will continue to be accepted at the 9 Albion Street business office, at all offices of The Savings Bank, and in the convenient drop-off box on Smith Street.
“With the introduction of the new billing system in 2009, we have been able to enhance and upgrade our customer services to make it more convenient for customers to pay their WMGLD bill each month,” Dion added.
