Car Chase
Nicholas Adiletto, 21, of 63 Doonan Street in Medford, was arrested on Sunday, August 16 at 3:45 a.m. after allegedly narrowly avoiding hitting a marked police cruiser then taking off on foot through a neighborhood. While driving in a police cruiser along Main Street, an officer observed a Ford mustang with extensive front-end damage approach his car at a high rate of speed, then swerved between lanes, causing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a collision. After the car passed the officer, it then extinguished all lights, and drove at 55 mph away from the officer.
As the officer began pursuit of the vehicle, the driver stopped the car, opened the driver's door and began running down the MBTA commuter rail train tracks before turning onto Meriam Street. It was here that the officer was able to tackle the suspect in a backyard. The officer said the suspect said he had no idea where he was and "might have hit some bushes in Melrose." Adiletto was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, speeding, failing to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Malden District Court.
