August 31 Market Day

Another Saturday of beautiful weather is expected for our Saturday, August 31 market! The Wakefield Farmers Market brings peak local summer freshly picked fruits and veggies, the best fish, meat, dairy & flower bouquets that will last for weeks. You will also find the yummiest baked goods and breads, syrups, jellies, jams you can only find at the market. Plus, lots of activities to Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday now through October 12, 2019.

This week we have The Magic of Yarrow balloon twisting and face painting, kids activity tent stocked with drawing materials. Plus new hula hoops, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk. The market is a great place to shop, have a picnic, play, or just hang out on the shore of Lake Quannapowitt.

Our music tent will feature live music by Eddie Dee, is a strong singer with an eclectic collection of songs ready to perform. Eddie has been influenced in a variety of music styles from Gilbert and Sullivan to Miles Davis. He plays piano, guitar, banjo, harmonica and percussion to accompany his singing, in many song styles including Folk, Swing, Pop, Irish and Blues. Eddie loves to make music and to share the joy that music brings. The Wakefield Farmers Market Music Program is sponsored by The Savings Bank.

Our guest chef, Wendy Dennis will be dishing out a great recipe, using fresh produce and spices purchased from the market that morning. Our non-profit guest, Voter Choice Massachusetts, is a non-partisan, politically diverse, non-profit organization dedicated to educating the Massachusetts public about an electoral reform that increases the range of choice on the ballot and produces fairer outcomes. Voter Choice MA advocates for the expanded use of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), which allows voters to rank the candidates on the ballot in order of preference. RCV would make Massachusetts elections more competitive and fair by encouraging the participation of more candidates and parties, and by ensuring outcomes that more accurately reflect the will of the voters.

Produce: Lots of summer produce is being harvested and it’ll be at the market Saturday! Farmer Dave’s will have their amazing potted plants, lots of fresh greens and fresh fruit. Stop by Fay Mountain Farm’s booth and grab a few of their famous zucchini for stuffing, the yummiest grape tomatoes and juicy peaches. Kelly’s Farm will have their gorgeous fresh cut flower bouquets and delicious, fresh sweet corn and greens.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, and poultry. Try their farm fresh eggs, and the chicken is the best.
Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood will have plenty of fresh seafood on hand. You can even pre-order and have it ready for you at the market. Call Roberto’s Seafood for details (617) 529-5701. Eat more fish!

Maple: Ackermann’s Maple Farm offers delightful maple products, including maple syrup, maple sugar, and maple cream from their 3000 trees nestled in the hills of Cabot, Vermont. Try the maple cream, you won’t be sorry.

Specialty Foods: Deano’s Pasta delicious fresh pasta and sauces, for a restaurant quality meal at home. Fork on a Road brings vegetarian and vegan Market Day Meal Kits, inspired by the local harvest and Suman’s global pantry that include ingredients sourced direct from local producers. Grateful Tastes is here with their jams and jellies made from locally sourced ingredients. Habibi Gourmet Food (Mediterranean fare), with the best authentic, Egyptian and Lebanese food around. Try their hummus!

Baked Goods: Goodies Homemade (the scones are the best), Swiss Bakers (try their pretzels, a great market snack), The Bread Shop will have their famous cinnamon rolls and sourdoughs, and The Roasted Granola, with the best granola you’ve ever tasted.

Beverages:Aaronap Cellars (wine) are showcasing the best in Northeast wine making. Pony Shack Cider is here with their small batch, artisanal hard cider. Pour Man’s Coffee with the best cold brewed coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats:Emmett’s Edibles, with healthy treats for your canine and feline friends.

Artisans: Bri’s Dyes is here with their unique tees and hand dyed and tie dyed accessories for babies, kids and adults. Kittredge Candles offers soy jar candles, tins, tarts, and tea lights, as well as votives, novelty candles, soap, goat’s milk lotion, lip balms and gift sets. Red Antler Apothecary joins us this season, with made in small batches with real plant-derived ingredients using age-old recipes. Sarah’s Originals, all handmade, Sarah makes super potholders and aprons for all the cooks, plus place mats, cloth children’s books, and more. The perfect place to pick up gifts or some essentials for your own home. Alison Simcox and Doug Heath with their books about Lake Quannapowitt, Breakheart, and recent award winner, The Fellsway.
