Big Plans for Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy in 2019
Agendas for the next several meetings are set
The first meeting of 2019 was held by the Sons and Daughters of Italy recently at Laurie’s 909 in Wakefield. Lodge President Adriana Guida covered several topics including officer nominations, charitable activities and what the group plans to do for FUN this year. Member Jim Marino gave a talk on the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry and the great work they do in the community. The Lodge is a regular supporter of the Pantry, so it was impressive to hear about the assistance they provide.
As with many of the monthly meetings, refreshments were served. In honor of upcoming St. Joseph’s Day, fresh Zeppoles were prepared by members Paula Sasso, Pat Ectman, Joanne Szczesuil and Laurie Rizzo. Not to leave out St. Patrick’s Day, Irish Soda Bread was also available.
If you ever wondered what it would be like to be a member of the Wakefield Lodge, you don’t have to wonder any more. The Lodge has a policy of welcoming prospective members to attend one or more meetings to see what we are all about before committing. We meet about 10 times a year, but members are not under obligation to attend all the meetings. Meetings are mostly on the second Tuesday of the month. Check us out, and bring a friend or two!

Plans for the April meeting, which will actually be on the third Tuesday, will feature a fun themed basket raffle or “Edible Delights”. Proceeds will go to support our many charitable endeavors. The Red Sox are playing that night, so feel free to attend wearing the local colors. We will be collecting items for the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry, so bring an item or two if you can. Join us on April 16 at 6:30 at Laurie’s 909 on New Salem Street.
Other plans for this year include the annual Officers Installment, our Charity Auction/Dinner, and starting an any-level Summer Bocce League. As in years past, the Lodge will participate in Wakefield’s Festival Italia in August. Traditionally, we offer a FREE raffle ticket to win a basket of Italian food items. This gives us an opportunity to meet and greet visitors and local attendees and tell them about our organization.
