Brownie Troop 72040 Takes Part in WIFP Education Session

The Brownies learned about food insecurity and ways the food pantry is helping to serve members of the community.

A release from the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry:

Robin Hood Brownie Troop 72040 took part in an education session at the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry on Saturday, Oct. 6. At this education session, the Brownies learned about food insecurity in our community and ways the food pantry is helping to serve members of the community in need.

In addition, the Brownies “shopped” at the food pantry in a manner similar to the food pantry’s clients. The girls shopped with pretend money to learn about healthy foods and the financial pressures the food pantry’s clients face every day. The Brownies also did a tour of the food pantry and colored artwork to illustrate how they feel when they’re hungry.

All the Brownies brought home with them certificates of completion and the artwork they created at the food pantry. The food pantry also received from members of Troop 72040 numerous donations of healthy foods for our clients.

"Robin Hood Brownie Troop 72040 enjoyed learning about the invaluable services the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry provides to those in need and how they can take action to make a difference in their community,” says Sheri Sullivan, on behalf of Robin Hood Brownie Troop 72040.

“It was our pleasure to host these vibrant Girl Scouts from Robin Hood Brownie Troop 72040 at the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry,” says Maureen Miller, director of operations. “Witnessing these young girls experience the food pantry and learn about our clients and food insecurity in our community was a rewarding experience for all involved. We’re also grateful for their generous food donations.”
