Event Details
Wakefield and Friends Protest holds peaceful protests every Saturday morning at 11 am at the intersection of Main and Water Streets. We are gearing up for the big No Kings! protest for this Saturday, June 14. Please note the earlier start time for THIS Saturday only - 10:30 am.
Our start time is 10:30am and we aim to end around 12:30 but will stay on longer if folks want to. This is a rain or shine event.
We meet at the intersection of Main and Water Streets. We have a few signs to share but folks are encouraged to bring their own.
Dogs are welcome but must stay on leash at all times.
Wakefield and Friends is a PEACEFUL protest. We have never had any issues and do not expect any. Each of us is responsible for our own behavior AND the behavior of those protesting near us.
By participating, you agree to adhere to our Code of Conduct; we DO NOT ENGAGE with pro-trump supporters walking or driving by. This means we do not yell back, swear, give the finger or other such gestures, or make faces. Some who are stopped at the traffic lights like to egg us on - do not take the bait. Even a 'nice' reply can instigate.
If you find that you must have a conversation with someone who does not share our values, you must move away from the protest site in order to protect the integrity and safety of the protest and your fellow protesters.
If you see a fellow protester behaving contrary to our Code, please remind them of the safety rules. Refer them to the Code of Conduct which is posted near the box of signs, or get assistance from one of the Protest Team Members, designated by the blue lanyard name tag and neon vests they wear. The Conduct Code is also posted on the back of many of our signs.
This is an all-outdoor event at a busy suburban intersection; feel free to move around to any of the four corners of the intersection, crossing only on the signal. We do not march en masse. We stay off the street and on the sidewalk near the curb.
We do not block traffic, streets, sidewalks or cross walks - all common sense things for a peaceful event. Please help your fellow protesters remember these safety rules.
Bullhorns and whistles are not allowed but cowbells are - we always need more cowbell, right? We have a limited supply of democratic blue cowbells to share. Please be sure to return them to the blue bucket on our table where the bin of signs is located.
PARKING: we recommend parking on streets off of Main in order not to disrupt customer parking for local businesses. There is parking behind CVS (on Main St.), at the Galvin Middle School (on Main St., just a block south of the protest site). The parking lot immediately adjacent to the protest site is usually full but there are a few spots in the Wakefield Tire parking lot on Lincoln street, right next to the protest site. The Town Hall parking lot is available, too, and is located a couple of blocks north, toward the lake, on Lafayette Street, across from the upper Common.
There is a bus stop at the protest site - https://www.mbta.com/schedules/137/line.
The Commuter Rail is located west of Main Street and is a 10 to 15 minute walk from where we will be standing out.
Thank you for standing up to the uncountable injustices we are suffering under this corrupt regime! Together we are strong, and our forces are gaining in strength each day. Every action we take, no matter how small, gets us closer to a free and more just America.
