Concert for One Fund Features James Massone

Wakefield resident and former contestant on The Voice headlines benefit concert for Marathon bombing victims Friday evening, 7 p.m. at Galvin Middle School.

The following information was provided by P.S. We Care, Inc.

James Massone—former contestant on the Voice, and Wakefield resident—will headline a concert to benefit the One Fund—created by Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to provide relief to victims of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15.  Rising star Natalie Joly, a junior at Wakefield High School, will open for Massone.

The concert - May 31 at 7 p.m. at Wakefield’s Galvin Middle School—is being promoted by P.S. We Care, Inc., a Wakefield-based nonprofit corporation created to raise funds for contribution to the One Fund.  The charity’s founders, Paula Cameron and Sandi Falvey, moved by the tragic events April 15 and the amazing show of humanity that followed, were inspired to help.  “We wanted to do something significant to help,” said Cameron, “and given the caring spirit of the people of Wakefield, we knew doing something close to home would be our best bet.”

Tickets are being sold on Fridays from 2:15 to 3:30 on the Americal lawn next to Galvin Middle School, or by contacting Sandi Falvey (sandifalvey@yahoo.com), or Paula Cameron (paulacameron@comcast.net).  Tickets are going fast, so concert goers are encouraged to buy them as soon as possible.  “We sold about a third of the tickets in the first week,” said Falvey.  “We hope to sell out before the show.”  Tickets closest to the stage are being sold first; although, every seat in the Galvin auditorium is great for a concert.  “We’ve opted for reserved seating,” said Falvey, “so we encourage people who want to sit together to buy tickets at the same time.  We’re happy to sell tickets in groups to accommodate family and friends.”

“We’re thrilled to have James and Natalie perform,” said Cameron.  “They are two extremely talented musicians who both grew up right here in Wakefield.”  Massone won national acclaim as a contender on the Voice, where Christina Aguilera quipped, “Man, you have soul!”  And soul he has, influenced by singers such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Jamie Foxx, John Legend, and Ne-Yo.

Natalie Joly’s big break is sure to come next given her vocal range and raw talent, complemented by her mastery of the guitar, piano and ukulele.  She has a gift for writing and recording original songs, while also covering her favorite artists onstage including The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, and Norah Jones. Her music is a mix of classic rock and pop, with country flair, but her raw talent shows through no matter what she sings.

P.S. We Care hopes to raise over $10,000 for the One Fund.  In addition to ticket sales, they are also accepting donations from individuals and businesses.  Whatever they raise, the message of giving back is sure to resonate.  “No matter how much we raise,” said Cameron, “we want to set an example for our children about what it means to help those in need.  And surely the people victimized on April 15 need our help.”
