Wakefield, MA: Emmanuel Episcopal Church will welcome the Rev. Holly Hartman as its new deacon on Sunday, September 8 at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. Hartman was appointed to a three-year term by the bishops of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. She will serve alongside the Rev. Dr. Matthew P. Cadwell, rector of the parish. Deacon Hartman’s installation service on Sunday will feature a sermon by the Venerable Christiaan Beukman, archdeacon of the diocese. A festive brunch will follow in the Hausrath Memorial Parish Hall.
The Rev. Dr. Cadwell remarked, “We are thrilled to have Holly join our ministry team. She embodies the deacon’s ministry of bringing the needs and concerns of the world to the church, and the good news of the church to the world. She looks to break down barriers to build a more inclusive and caring church and society. I am excited to work with Holly to deepen our ministries in Wakefield and beyond, especially for those on the margins of society.”
Ordained in 2012, the Rev. Hartman is a graduate of Andover Newton Theological Seminary with a master’s degree in Christian Education, and had an earlier career as an occupational therapist. She previously served as deacon at Christ Church in Needham and Grace Church in Everett. She is also a Missioner for Global Partnerships on the diocesan staff. She will serve in the parish approximately 10 hours per week. The Rev. Hartman resides in Needham with her husband Lester, a pediatrician. They have two adult daughters.
