Dombroski Renews Call for Lewis to Debate

WAKEFIELD – State Senate Candidate and current Wakefield Town Councilor Ed Dombroski today renewed his call for State Senator Jason Lewis, his opponent in the November 8th election, to participate in additional debates. Senator Lewis recently refused to participate in a debate organized by the League of Women Voters of Winchester and stated that he would only participate in one debate hosted by Wakefield Community Access Television currently scheduled for October 17th, after many voters will have mailed in their ballots.

“It has been two weeks since I asked Senator Lewis to agree to additional debates and he has been silent on the issue,” said Councilor Dombroski. “Senator Lewis has instead used his social media to accuse me of not being open about my positions. Debates are the perfect place to talk about policy positions, and I welcome the opportunity. Instead, Senator Lewis would prefer to divide us – I’d rather bring our communities together.”

Dombroski said voters deserve openness from candidates seeking elected office, adding “it is simply not fair to voters for Senator Lewis to only participate in a single, one-hour debate in only one of the six communities of the Fifth Middlesex District. Voters deserve transparency, answers, and respect.” Dombroski has called for additional debates in all communities of the district, which in addition to Wakefield includes Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, and Winchester.

“People are already requesting ballots and will be mailing them back soon,” Dombroski added, highlighting that absentee and mail-in ballot votes can be cast well in advance of the October 17th single debate and Election Day on November 8th. “Senator Lewis’ continued refusal to participate in more debates naturally leaves voters wondering what Senator Lewis is hiding. He should show up and defend the votes he has taken, like voting to raise his own salary while voting against sales and gas tax relief for the people he serves.”

Dombroski has offered to organize the scheduling of additional debates in coordination with local groups and organizations, saying “I am ready to show up and offer the voters transparency and answers to highlight the contrasts with my opponent.”
