Emmanuel Episcopal Church to Hold Annual Blessing of Animals
Saturday, October 5 All Are Welcome!

Emmanuel Episcopal Church will hold its annual Blessing of Animals on Saturday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m.
The Blessing of Animals is held in honor of St. Francis, who lived in Italy from 1181 to 1226 and is revered for his love of nature. Born into wealth and privilege, he preferred a life of poverty and simplicity. He founded the Franciscan religious order embracing the same values. Canonized as a saint in 1228, Francis is honored across Christian denominations and beyond.
“St. Francis is inspirational for people of diverse faiths and backgrounds. He spoke of creation as the mirror of God, calling all creatures his brothers and sisters. Saturday’s lively celebration is our opportunity to give thanks for wonders of creation, and especially the beloved pets who provide so much happiness and companionship. We will ask God’s continuing blessing and health for them,” said the Rev. Dr. Matthew Cadwell, Emmanuel Church’s rector. Animals of all sorts are welcome. Photographs of pets that do not travel well are also invited. Children may bring stuffed animals to be blessed, too.
