Meet Author Eric Jay Dolin

Author of “When America First Met China”

Eric Jay Dolin will be at Beebe Library on Monday September 24 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of his latest book, “When America First Met China.”

Dolin’s book tells the story of the roots of America’s relationship with China and how the potential for trade stimuated the growth of the 19th century American shipbuilding industry and catalyzed America’s emerging economy, while at the same time sparking ecological and human rights abuses.

Peopled with colorful characters from both sides of the sea, “When America First Met China” is the page-turning story of the origins of the relationship between these two great cultures and how its ramifications are felt to this day.

Eric Jay Dolin is the best-selling author of “Leviathan: The History of Whaling In America,” and other popular books. He lives in Marblehead with his wife, Jennifer and their two children.
