“Musical America” kicks off the Wakefield UU Church’s Bicentennial with a program that reflects the many musical styles of the Standing Room Only series. The concert opens with the much-loved string quartet by Antonin Dvorak, “The American”, with Zoia Bologovsky, Peter Stickel, Dayla Stoerzbach and John Bumstead. Dvorak’s quartet uses tunes reminiscent of Negro Spirituals and Native American pentatonic melodies as well as sounds representing nature and the wide open spaces of the prairie. Following the Dvorak is a set of songs by Richard Conti and Maddie Sifantus for accordion and soprano, including Il Bacio (the kiss), Guitarra Romana and Old Mother Hubbard. Ending the program is a song set from the New England Tenors with violin, piano and percussion, featuring a set of their inspirational songs, such as You Raise Me Up and Impossible Dream.
