Forget the Snow, It's Quannapowitt Race Season

Any idea how many races are held each year around Lake Quannapowitt, the world's most perfect 5k lake?

Last year there were 25 weekend races according to Wakefield town officials and the first race of the 2017 season is Saturday, April 1. The Gator Gallop 5k gets the gun at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a kids' one-mile run beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Greenwood School PTO and the Wakefield Educational Foundation. The start line is at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street, on the lower common next to the bandstand. You can register to run at www.gatorgallop.com.

If weekend running isn't your thing, remember the Mystic Runners hold a race every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. beginning at the Lakeside Inn.
