Galvin Site Of Wakefield's Memorial Day Ceremony

Wakefield ceremony will feature keynote address by United States Navy Veteran Jason Donovan​.

The Galvin Middle School will host the annual Wakefield Memorial Day Ceremony, beginning at 1 p.m. Monday in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Guests will be welcomed by Jay Pinette, Chairman of the Wakefield Veterans Advisory Board. Wakefield boys scouts will both post the colors, and retire the colors at the end of the ceremony. The keynote address will be given by Jason Donovan, United States Navy Veteran.

In addition the ceremony will include:

  • Pledge of Allegiance led by American Legion Post 63 Commander Thomas Collins
  • “National Anthem” performed by Wakefield Memorial High School Junior Samantha Prosperi
  • Invocation – Rev. Dr. Robert Leroe, First Parish Congregational Church of Wakefield
  • Introduction of Hector Erinna, Wakefield Veterans’ Service Officer
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Memorial Day Proclamation presented by Stephanie Curran, Wakefield Project 351 Ambassador
  • Greetings from the Town of Wakefield, Wakefield Town Council Chairperson Peter May
  • Greetings from our legislators - Senator Jason W. Lewis
  • “America the Beautiful” performed by the Wakefield High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Thomas Bankert
  • Placement of the Gold Star Wreath – Commander Collins & Wakefield Girl Scouts
  • Reading of “In Flanders Field”
  • Keynote Address
  • “Armed Forces Medley” performed by the Wakefield Memorial High School Wind Ensemble
  • Moment of Silence
  • Taps performed by the Wakefield Memorial High School students Michelle Maffe & Noah Greif
  • Benediction – Rev. Dr. Robert Leroe, First Parish Congregational Church of Wakefield
  • Closing remarks & close ceremony

There are two morning events as well, each at 10 a.m. The West Side Social Club will hold its Memorial Day ceremony along with the Crystal Community Club ceremony.
