WAKEFIELD, MA — A social media threat made to a school in Maryland forced the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School in Wakefield to go on lockdown Monday. The Wakefield school — which was reportedly being evacuated — has a similar name to the other Maryland school.
The school said in a tweet just before noon Monday that the lockdown was precautionary in nature. All students and staff were safe, the tweet said. Wakefield police and a team with the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council have arrived at the school.
Parents who rushed to the school told WHDH-TV the superintendent’s office notified them of the lockdown just after 10:30 a.m, which stemmed from a threat made on social media. The students were being bused away from the school.
