How Did Wakefield's Educators Perform In The State Evaluation?

Nearly 97 percent of Wakefield’s evaluated educators received a score of Exemplary or Proficient on the 2013-14 Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Evaluation.

The results of the study show that 4.8 percent of the 290 educators evaluated in Wakefield were scored as Exemplary and 92.1 percent received a Proficient score. A total of 3.1 percent received a Needs Improvement rating and not one was deemed Unsatisfactory. Ninety-seven percent of Wakefield’s educators were evaluated, according to the results.

Statewide, 372 districts were evaluated with 86.5 percent of educators receiving a Proficient score, meaning “the educator’s performance fully and consistently meets the requirements of a standard or overall,” according to the survey definitions.

According to a press release from the DESE, this is the second year the ratings have been produced under a new state framework.

“The state’s new evaluation framework is designed to ensure teachers and administrators receive more meaningful feedback than ever before to help them better serve students,” the press release reads.

Once the program is fully implemented, every public school district in the state will be required to evaluate every educator.
