July 6 Market Day

The Saturday, July 6 the market will be full of freshly picked fruits, veggies, locally raised meats, out of this world dairy, and specialty foods you won’t find on the supermarket shelf. Plus live music, local artisans, kid activities and more. The Wakefield Farmers Market takes place at Hall Park (next to Veterans Field, GPS 468 North Ave Wakefield MA) each Saturday through October 12, 2019.

Saturday’s market day will feature live music by Eddie Dee, is a strong singer with an eclectic collection of songs ready to perform. He grew up in a house where a great variety of music was played by his parents, from Gilbert and Sullivan, to Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra. His siblings introduced him to the music of Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, Dave Brubeck, and Miles Davis. Eddie has performed many roles in local musical theater productions. He plays piano, guitar, banjo, harmonica and percussion to accompany his singing. His song styles include Folk, Swing, Pop, Irish and Blues. Eddie loves to make music and to share the joy that music brings. Our guest chefs, Wendy Dennis and Katie Franzetti will be dishing out a great recipe, using fresh produce and spices purchased from the market that morning. Thanks to The Wakefield Cooperative Bank, our Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education sponsor.

Yarrow, our magical and trusty balloon twisting artist will be here. As always, have hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes on hand for kids of all ages, and the Kid’s Activity tent will be set up and stocked with plenty of paper, crayons, as well.

Tonneson + Co 5K and Kids Fun Run for Wakefield Food Pantry will join us to share information about their The 7th Annual Tonneson + Co 5K run/walk. All proceeds from the race benefit the Wakefield Food Pantry's Kids First Program. The Kids First Program provides food to families with school age children during the summer months. Many families receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch during the school year but help is not available during the summer when school is out. The Kids First Program provides additional kid-friendly food items to help replace those meals.

Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for – the official list of week’s vendors!

Produce: Farmer Dave, Fay Mountain Farm, Kelly’s Farm will have plenty of in-season produce of all kinds, greens, herbs, & potted plants. Flats Mentor Farm is back with specialty asian greens and herbs, all gorgeous to to look at and scrumptious to taste.

Pasture-raised Meats, Poultry, and Eggs: Lilac Hedge Farm will have all you need for locally raised meats, poultry, and eggs. Check out their yummy jerky type products.

Seafood: Roberto’s Seafood will be have plenty of fresh seafood on hand. You can even pre-order and have it ready for you at the market. Call Roberto’s Seafood for details.

Maple: Ackermann’s offers delightful maple products, including maple syrup, maple sugar, and maple cream from their 3000 trees nestled in the hills of Cabot, Vermont. Try the maple cream you won’t be sorry.

Specialty Foods: Grateful Tastes will be joining us for the first time this season, with their jams and jellies. Deano's Pasta delicious fresh pasta. Fork on the Road brings vegetarian and vegan Market Day Meal Kits, inspired by the local harvest and Suman’s global pantry that include ingredients sourced direct from local producers. Plus her homemade spice blends, unique chutneys and snacks. Habibi Gourmet Food (Mediterranean fare), the very best authentic Egyptian and Lebanese food.

Baked Goods: Drive by Pies join us this week, bringing us sweet and savory Itty-bitty pies, mini pies and large pies, all homemade from scratch daily. Goodies Homemade (the scones are the best), Swiss Bakers (try the Berliner!), The Bread Shop will have their famous cinnamon rolls, and Roasted Granola, which also offers locally made yogurt.

Beverages: Aaronap Cellars (wine) are showcasing the best in Northeast wine making. Pony Shack Cider returns with their small batch, artisanal hard cider. Pour Man’s Coffee is here, too, with the BEST ice coffee and other beverages, plus treats to enjoy at the market. They also sell Fair Trade coffee beans from Dean’s Beans to take home.

Pet Treats: Emmett’s Edibles, with healthy treats for your canine and feline friends.

Artisans: Be U by Rumi with beautiful beaded jewelry, and Hiller Silver Studio, transforms silver sheets and wire and hand cut & polished stones, rocks & minerals into stunningly fine jewelry. Red Antler Apothecary joins us the first time this season, with made in small batches with real plant-derived ingredients using age-old recipes. Also, Alison Simcox and Doug Heath with their books about Lake Quannapowitt, Breakheart, and recent award winner, The Fellsway.
